1. What is Aluminum?

Aluminum is a silvery-white metal. It is soft, nonmagnetic, and malleable. Aluminum is used in various products, including cans, foils, kitchen utensils, window frames, beer kegs, and airplane parts.

Aluminum is the third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon) and the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. It makes up about 8% of the Earth's solid surface weight.

2. Why use Aluminum?

Advantages

Aluminum is a highly valuable metal because it is:

lightweight - about 1/3 as dense as iron or copper

ductile - can be formed into wires or rolled into thin sheets

malleable - can be pounded into thin sheets or drawn into wires

high thermal conductivity - metals are good conductors of heat and electricity; this property makeAlAluminum an excellent choice for cooking utensils and electrical power lines

good corrosion resistance - does not rust easily (unlike iron)

3. What are the different Aluminum Alloys?

The aluminum industry has created an extensive international standards system designed to provide a common language for the many different alloys, tempers, and other variables that are part of the industry. The four-digit numbering system designates the alloy, i.e., 1xxx series is essentially pure Aluminum, 3xxx series are Manganese (Mn) alloys, 5xxx series are Magnesium alloys, and 6xxx series are Magnesium and Silicon alloys. Each specific alloy designator represents a range of compositions acceptable in that designation.

4. What are the common temper designations for Aluminum?

A temper designation identifies the actual stress-strain state at room temperature. The temper designations are as follows:

O – Annealed

H – Strain-hardened, partially annealed (1/4 hard)

T – Strain-hardened and cold worked (1/2 hard)

W – Solution heat-treated, then artificially aged (full hard)

F – Solution heat-treated and naturally aged to a substantially stable condition (3/4 hard)

S – Work hardened by rolling or extrusion, then stabilized by low-temperature heat treatment to prevent further strain hardening during fabrication (full hard)

5. What kind of thicknesses can I get?

Aluminum alloys come in various thicknesses, often expressed as a "gauge." Our extremely knowledgeable staff will help you choose the perfect thickness for your project.

Common aluminum sheet thicknesses:

0.025"" – 0.190""

Common aluminum sheet thicknesses for aerospace and military applications:

0.016"" – 0.249""

6. What comes in Aluminum Sheets & Plates?

Aluminum Sheets & Plates. Aluminum sheets and aluminum plates are essentially the same; the only true distinction is their respective thickness. An aluminum sheet is any metal thicker than foil but thinner than 6mm; it comes in many forms, including diamond plate, expanded, perforated, and painted aluminum sheet.

7. Where to buy Aluminum Sheet Metal from?

These days, online shopping has become very popular due to its convenience and ease of access. Online retailers such as Alibaba, Made-in-China, and AliExpress have a wide range of products such as aluminum sheets to meet your needs at competitive prices. In addition, most online retailers will offer free delivery on large orders within a particular region which saves you money! Ordering from online retailers also allows you to compare. MINGSHUN is a professional supplier of aluminum sheets, and you can contact us for help.

8. what is an aluminum sheet

Aluminum Sheet is a soft metal (technically, it is the third softest, but it is usually grouped with the semimetals due to its mechanical properties) with excellent electrical, thermal, and chemical resistance properties. It was isolated in 1825 by Hans Christian Oersted (Norway), Friedrich Wöhler (Germany) and Henri Etienne Sainte-Claire Deville (France). It exhibits good strength, excellent flexibility, and high corrosion resistance, as with most metals.

9. How to Calculate Weight of Aluminium Sheet

The density of aluminum is 2.7 g/cm3, so the weight of one inch thick aluminum sheet is 2.7g/cm3*1inch =2.7g/cm3*0.0254m=0.06804kg/m2 or 68.04g/m2
