A temper designation identifies the actual stress-strain state at room temperature. The temper designations are as follows:
O – Annealed
H – Strain-hardened, partially annealed (1/4 hard)
T – Strain-hardened and cold worked (1/2 hard)
W – Solution heat-treated, then artificially aged (full hard)
F – Solution heat-treated and naturally aged to a substantially stable condition (3/4 hard)
S – Work hardened by rolling or extrusion, then stabilized by low-temperature heat treatment to prevent further strain hardening during fabrication (full hard)
